Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019

There will be a test tomorrow, Thursday, on the Names Unit. We will review this unit today to help students study/prepare for the test.

Students need to complete the Favourite Names writing assignment and hand in.

We will continue to work on the Idioms from Numbers assignment and also the Reading Comprehension assignment.

Here is the unit. The test will include skills practiced/learned in this unit (i.e., proper and common nouns, present tense verbs, alphabetical order, etc.):

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019

Today we will discuss the meaning of Thanksgiving in Canada and students will write in their journals about what they are thankful for.

Students will work on a new reading comprehension assignment that we will correct together in class and we will complete the writing assignment about favourite names today (hand in for marks). We will also work on the Idioms from Numbers assignment.

There will be a test on the Names Unit on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Students completed a reading comprehension assignment about a model ship in a bottle and we corrected it together.

We also corrected the singular/plural verb work from yesterday. We looked at Mel’s example of a paragraph about her favourite name and then students worked on their first draft (rough copy) of the writing assignment about a favourite name.

Students will complete a reading comprehension assignment about fish. We will correct it together.

We will correct the Capitalizing Proper Nouns assignment together and start working on the Simple Present assignment. Students will also start planning to write a paragraph about a favourite name.

Students will work on a reading comprehension assignment about mold. We will correct it together. Students will also work on a dictionary skills assignment and a proper nouns assignment. We will go through it together in class.

Students will complete an Idioms from Food Quiz today.

Students will also work on a Reading Comprehension Assignment about oysters and pearls. Once everyone is finished, we will go through the answers together with the class.

We will continue to work on the Names unit with students working on a vocabulary assignment (for marks – hand in) and reading an article, Naming the Blackberry and completing the assignment. We will correct this assignment together next week.

REMINDERS:

-Today is the last day to hand in the Special Language Exam registration forms.
