I know these are stressful times and some of you may not feel able to focus on your school work at this time. Please know that you can get caught up when you are ready and I will accept your work later if you need more time. I do, however, encourage you to try to spend some time on improving your English skills each day. It is a good way to take your mind off the Coronavirus pandemic and focus on something that you can control -your learning.

For students who have not done the written assignment, please go to Monday’s blog post to read the instructions. If you did not do the assignment yet, please work on that today and email me a picture of your final good copy. I will mark it and send it back to you. If possible, please type your good copy of your paragraph and email it to me.

Today’s Lesson:

If you are finished the Who are Your Friends? booklet and have emailed me a picture of your paragraph, here are some activities you should work on today. We will not start the new lessons and Malala book until after spring break to give everyone a chance to get caught up. You can choose what you want to work on from the list below. Spend 2 hours working on any of these activities:

  • Singular and Plural Possessive Nouns worksheets
  • Definite and Indefinite Articles booklet
  • Past Continuous booklet
  • Read a book or article for pleasure
  • Write a paragraph about any topic in your journal
  • Read this article about the benefits of watching movies to improve your English: https://www.gonaturalenglish.com/top-10-movies-learning-english/
  • Click on this link to go to CBC Curio’s free website to access free videos. Choose what you would like to watch: https://curio.ca/en/

Good Afternoon!

I hope you are all well. I will try my best to help you continue your schooling from home. If you have any questions, please email me: mfenton@wsd1.org

*I would like to be able to contact students by email. However, I do not have all of your email addresses. Please send me an email message so that I have your email addresses.

I am experimenting with different ways of meeting your educational needs at home, so please be patient and try your best to keep up with the work that I assign.

Today’s Lesson:

Hopefully, you all finished last week’s work. If not, please go back to my Thursday & Friday blogs (March 19 & 20), and follow the instructions. You should complete that work first.

1. Write Sentences About Your Friends – Pg. 31 . In your journals, draw 3 idea maps like the example in the unit. Use the idea maps to brainstorm about 3 different friends. Make sure to use some of the adjectives, nouns and verbs from the assignment.

2. Write a Paragraph About One Friend -Choose one of the idea maps and write a paragraph about one of your friends, using vocabulary words from the unit. *Don’t forget to include a topic sentence, detail sentences, and a concluding sentence. Your paragraph should include at least 5 – 7 sentences.

3. Edit and Revise your work, following the instructions on pg. 32 & 33.

4. If possible, take a photo of your final good copy and email it to me.

There is a homework package ready for each student who has been absent this week. Please go to the office any time today between 9:00 – 3:15 to pick it up or have someone else pick it up for you. This package is for students to take home to do during the school closure. This work package includes a new book for students to read, “Who is Malala Yousafzai?“ and a book study package to work on while reading this book. This is a library book, so students will need to return in once the school reopens. The package also includes a Reading, Writing and Vocabulary Workbook and students will also take home their journals to write in daily.

The expectation is that students will continue to work on the class lessons at home. I will post the daily lessons on this blog, so that students know what to do. If you have any questions, please email me. I will be available from 12:00 – 3:15 each school day to answer your questions.

Today, students should continue to work on the “Who are Your Friends?” unit.

Here is what you should have completed yesterday:

  1. Complete the Different Kinds of Friends Vocabulary assignment.
  2. Read the article, “Different Kinds of Friends.”
  3. Complete the Comprehension Check and Building Word Families assignment.
  4. Write a paragraph in your journal about your different kinds of friends, using some of the vocabulary words from the article.

2-Sentence Rhyming Poem Examples:

*While the school is closed, I will post a lesson each day on this blog for students to follow. It is important that you check the blog daily and do the lessons so that you will not fall behind. I have given students much more than enough work, in case the schools end up closing for longer than 3 weeks. Follow my instructions and spend about 2 hours each day doing the work that I assign. Once the schools reopen, students will need to bring all the completed work back for me to mark, so it is important that you do the assignments and don’t fall behind. Students will also have to do some tests related to the homework once the school reopens, so make sure you follow the daily lessons and do the work.

My Email Address: mfenton@wsd1.org

The school will be closed from March 23 – April 10. Students return to school on Monday, April 13.

I hope to see you soon. Take care and stay healthy! 🙂
