Hello Students!

Thank you to those students who have been joining my daily meetings and emailing me your assignments.

We will have a short class meeting today at 1:00. I have emailed you the link. Please write down any questions you have so that you can ask me them at the meeting.

Our next class meeting will be on Friday at 1:00. There is no meeting tomorrow, but if you need to speak to me or ask me a question, I will be in my meeting tomorrow from 12:00 – 1:00. Just click on the same link that you used for today’s meeting to join me tomorrow if you want to talk to me.

Today’s Lesson:

Today in our class meeting, we read Ch. 2 of Who is Malala? I explained the meaning of some of the vocabulary words in this chapter and assigned a new assignment that is due next week. Students should re-read Ch. 2 by themselves several times. Then write either a Retell, Relate or Reflect paragraph about Ch. 2. Make sure to use at least one of the Ch. 2 vocabulary words in your paragraph. Once you have edited it and corrected all your mistakes, please email it to me. If possible, please type the paragraph on your computer. If not, just send me a picture of your writing. This paragraph is not due until next week.

Some students still need to work on completing the Who is Malala? Ch. 1 assignment. This assignment is due this Friday, April 17.

Here is the Retell, Relate, Reflect instructions for the Ch. 1 assignment. You need to choose to either retell or relate or reflect on Ch. 1.:

Students also need to complete the Reading, Writing & Vocabulary assignment – Lesson 2 by this Friday, April 17. Here is the assignment if you don’t have it.:

Students who are finished all of the above assignments can work on the extra practice booklets that were given to you in March before the school closed.

This Week’s Assignment:

You will need to complete this work (below) and email me the writing assignment by Thursday, April 9 (if you need the weekend to finish this work, that is OK). The writing assignment is for marks.

  1. Read the introduction to Who is Malala Yousafzai? (if you didn’t do this yesterday)
  2. Complete pg. 4 (Before Your Read) and pg. 7 (Dictionary Detective – Ch. 1) of the book study booklet (yesterday)
  3. Read Ch. 1 of the book (re-read if you did already)
  4. Do the assignment on pg. 8-10 of the book study booklet.
  5. Write a paragraph in your journal about Ch. 1 -I explained this in the meeting yesterday. This is the assignment that you will need to email to me. The instructions are below.

Chapter 1 – Who is Malala? Writing Assignment

For the writing assignment, you will write a paragraph in your journal (or please type it on your computer, if possible), about Ch. 1 of the Malala book. You can choose to write a Retell paragraph, or a Relate paragraph, or a Reflect paragraph. The instructions for this are below, but most of you already have this paper. Use your own words to write about the paragraph. Don’t copy from the book. The paragraph should be at least 5-7 sentences long (or more). Make sure to check your writing for mistakes and edit your work before you email it to me. Please take a picture of your paragraph and email it to me. Or, if you type it, please email the typing to me.

Please continue to check your emails and the blog each day. You can also email me if you have any questions.

As you know, classes will not continue in the school building for the rest of the school year, so students will continue to do school work at home. I strongly encourage you to continue with your learning by participating with me in our daily English classes. The school year is not cancelled! You will receive your final mark and 10E credit and will be ready to move to 20E if you continue to participate in this class. I am here to support you in completing your educational goals. Thank you for continuing to participate in my class.

Reminder:

This Friday, April 10, is Good Friday, so there will not be any classes or meeting tomorrow.

See you at 1:00! 🙂
