I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend! We will not have a class meeting today, to give students a chance to catch up with unfinished work/overdue assignments. However, I will be available from 12:00 – 1:00 in an open Google Meeting today if you have any questions or need help. Use the same link as last week to get to my open meeting. We will have a class meeting tomorrow.

Your only assignment for today is to read Ch. 6 of Who is Malala? I will be posting this week’s assignment in Google Classroom later today.

The Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) invites young people to tune in to their Facebook and/or YouTube pages for a live presentation streamed from the MACY Youth Engagement team. Youth Engagement Coordinators Jon Skrypnyk and Cathy Cook will discuss youth rights that fall under the United Conventions on the Rights of the Child, while Knowledge Keeper Cheryl Alexander explains ways to maintain your mental health during stressful times, like the COVID-19 pandemic. MACY will also provide some discussion questions for students to consider after the presentation.

In this interactive session, you will learn about what mindfulness actually is, how a practice of mindfulness is part of creating a healthy mind and how it can reduce the effects of stress on the mind and body. A member of the KIDTHINK team will guide you through some basic information about mindfulness and lead you through a variety of mindfulness practices to see what might be a good fit for you.

Take Stigma to the Trash Fun Run, Walk, Scoot or Bike

Junel Malapad â€“ (Winnipeg School Division’s own Presidents’ Council Award Winner for exemplary service and outstanding achievement, innovative thinking and personal initiative, and lasting and pervasive impact in the field of public education) will be running 50 km around the Sargent Park School community on Friday, May 8 as part of Healthy Minds Week.

Please join us by participating where you are, virtually and physically distancing while we walk, scoot, run, skateboard or bike. Proceeds raised in Taking Stigma to the Trash will fund school-based mental health literacy and stigma reduction programming in schools and post-secondary institutions as well as to support programs for youth transitioning out of the child welfare system for more information go to https://mbwpg.cmha.ca/events/taking-stigma-to-the-trash-2020.share
