Students will complete their Formative Self-Assessments today. The purpose of this assessment is to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work. This assessment will also help your teacher recognize where you are struggling and address problems that you may have.

Students will also work on a writing skill today with Concluding Sentences. A good concluding sentence closes a paragraph. Sometimes it tells the reader the main idea again. It does not add new information.

Students will also learn about Infinitives of Purpose today. An infinitive is to + the base form of the verb, and it can come after the verbs like, want, and need. Another way you can use an infinitive is to give a purpose for someone’s action. An infinitive of purpose explains why someone does something. Example: She lies to her child to be nice. (Why does she lie? Her purpose is to be nice). Students will be given an assignment to practice using infinitives of purpose. We will correct it together.

Is it OK to tell white lies? We will read the chatroom posts about this topic and will discuss. What do you think? Is it ever OK to tell a white lie? Students will also write their opinion about this in their journals.

Students will also learn about Callocations today. Callocations are words that go together. For example, “make the bed” and “do the dishes” are words that go together and that are commonly used in English. Learning common callocations will help you speak and write more naturally. Students will complete and HAND IN an assignment using common callocations that are in this week’s Readings 1 and 2.
