We will watch a short video about Nelson Mandela’s life today.

We will also correct the first reading comprehension booklet together today and review some strategies that good readers use to decode words.

Good Readers:

-decode words in different ways.

-use pictures to predict words.

-use meaning clues to predict words

-look for common patterns in words

-look for base words and common endings.

-know the difference between facts and opinions

-connect the ideas they read about to their own lives.

Students will read an idea from the story about Mandela and make a connection to their lives. Then they will write a paragraph about this connection (who is the main storyteller in your family?) in their journals.
