Students will work on a Reading Comprehension assignment about the platypus. We will correct it together.

Students will be given an assignment about Idioms from Food. Students should work on this for homework. We will go through it tomorrow. There will be a quiz on these idioms on Friday.

Some students need to work on completing the “My Future” writing assignment and hand it in for marks. It is due on Friday.

We will start a new unit today about Names. How did you get your name? Do you know the meaning of your name? We will discuss this topic and students will read a magazine article about different ways people around the world name children. Students will complete a vocabulary assignment about this article (hand in for marks).

REMINDERS:

  • The Special Language Exam forms are due on Oct. 4.
  • There will be an Idioms from food quiz on Friday.

Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019

Students will start working on a new reading comprehension assignment today. We will correct this assignment together in class. Students will also write a reflection about Orange Shirt Day in their journals. What did you think about the ceremony? How do you feel about this topic? Write about your thoughts and feelings in your journal.

Monday, Sept. 30, 2019

Today is Orange Shirt Day. On Orange Shirt Day, schools across Canada honour Indigenous survivors of the residential school system by encouraging students to wear orange. We will watch a film about Residential Schools called “Where are the Children?” and learn more about this terrible part of Canada’s history.

We will also have a student bbq at 12:00 today. Come to class and we will go downstairs to get hot dogs together. There will also be a draw to win a Chromebook. Make sure to come to school today!

Friday, Sept. 27, 2019

There will be a short quiz about idioms from colours today. Please do not talk during the quiz and no dictionaries or cell phone use is allowed. Students will complete the reading comprehension assignment booklet today and hand it in for marks. Students will also read about Orange Shirt Day and discuss and answer questions about this topic. Students will be given more time next week to complete the future tense writing assignment.

Students will work on the second page of this week’s reading comprehension assignment and will hand it in for marks when finished. Students will also continue to work on the plan for the “My Future” writing assignment. Once finished, students will write a paragraph on loose leaf paper about their future. Remember to skip lines. We will edit this later this week. We will also start an assignment today about Idioms and colours.

Students will work on the first page of this week’s reading comprehension assignment and will hand it in for marks when finished. Students will also work with a partner on editing their writing assignment about the past, using an Editing Checklist handout. Students need to hand this assignment in today for marks. Students will also begin the plan for the “My Future” writing assignment.

REMEMBER:

In a run-on sentence, you will find two or more complete sentences that are joined together without appropriate punctuation or conjunction. A run-on sentence will have more than one subject and more than one predicate.
