Happy Earth Day 2020 – Unifor Local 88

Yesterday was our 50th Earth Day! Share your love for Earth and Canada by adding your favourite Canadian place to the Canada Shares map. Don’t forget to check out your submission on the collaborative map and see what your fellow Canadians have shared.

Hello Students!

Thank you to those students who have been joining my Google Meetings and who have joined Google Classroom.

We will not have a class meeting today. However, I will be available in Google Meeting from 1:00 – 2:00 if students need help with anything. The following students should join me today and I will try to help you join Google Classroom.: Rezwana, Tiblets, Rajae, Shamsedin, Cyusa, Jacky, & Selam

Today’s Lesson:

  1. Join my Google Classroom (if you haven’t yet)
  2. Do the Malala -Ch.1 assignment in Google Classroom and turn in to me when finished. I will also post the Ch. 1 paragraph assignment if any students want to type it in there. Most students have already sent me an email of this assignment, so this if just for students who have not done it yet.
  3. Re-read Ch. 2 of Who is Malala?
  4. Complete the Ch. 2 Questions assignment in Google Classroom.
  5. Write either a Retell, Relate or Reflect paragraph about Ch. 2. Make sure to use at least one of the Ch. 2 vocabulary words in your paragraph (from the Malala study booklet -pg. 11). Please do this assignment in Google Classroom. It is due on Monday, April 26.
  6. Yesterday was Earth Day. Here are some interesting activities related to Earth Day. Choose one or more (click on the titles) and do it on your own. You may wish to do an activity with your children too.:

Energy Production in Canada
In this activity, you will learn about Canada’s energy story by exploring where, how, and why different types of energy are produced in Canada. You will learn about Canada’s power generation stations, oil refineries, wind farms, and more.

Canada’s Atlantic Ocean & Fisheries
In this activity, you will explore the Atlantic Ocean, collapse of the Atlantic cod, current state of Atlantic fisheries and sustainable management practices.

The Arctic Ocean
In this activity, you will explore the Arctic Ocean, the importance of Arctic sea ice and how the Earth’s changing climate impacts both Arctic and global systems.

Toronto’s Urban Forest
In this activity, you will learn about Toronto’s urban forest, and you can add information about your community trees to a public web map.

Living in the Age of Humans

Explore this series of story maps examining the planet-wide impacts of human activities. Take a closer look at understanding the global scale of human activities, how humans have modified the Earth’s limited land space, and discover the various ways forests are essential to life on Earth, and see how they’re faring today.

Here is the Retell, Relate, Reflect instructions for both the Ch. 1 & 2 assignments. You need to choose to either retell or relate or reflect on Ch. 1 & 2 (1 paragraph for EACH chapter).:

Students also need to complete the Reading, Writing & Vocabulary assignment – Lesson 2 (Poem). We will correct it together at the class meetings on Tuesday. Here is the assignment if you don’t have it.:

Students who are finished all of the above assignments can work on the extra practice booklets that were given to you in March before the school closed. Students may also choose to do the optional Narrative Writing assignment at the end of Lesson 2 for extra marks.
